Mary Rogers, PhD, Scott Flanders, MD & Vineet Chopra, MD and others recently published a manuscript in Lancet Hematology entitled, “Association between delivery methods for red blood cell transfusion and the risk of venous thromboembolism: a longitudinal study". They conclude that red blood cell transfusion through a multi-lumen PICC is associated with a greater risk of thrombosis than transfusion through a peripheral intravenous catheter.
