HMS PICC expert Vineet Chopra, MD, MSc, and his team created the highly successful Michigan Appropriateness Guide for Intravenous Catheters (MAGIC) in 2015. Although MAGIC is now the world's leading evidence-based tool for choosing an appropriate vascular access device in adults, nothing remotely close exists for pediatric patients. However, the Association for Vascular Access (AVA) Foundation is about to bridge that gap to include pediatric patients, and plans to fund the creation and development of miniMAGIC, in order to improve pediatric vascular access outcomes.
