Data gathered from the HMS collaborative have allowed physicians at Michigan Medicine and the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Health System to create a model to predict the risk of central-line-associated bloodstream infections in patients with PICCs. This model is known as the Michigan PICC-CLABSI (MPC) score. This model allows those placing PICCs to operationalize or prioritize CLABSI risk factors when making decisions regarding the use of PICCs, by using the risk model to estimate an individual’s risk of PICC-CLABSI prior to device placement.
