McLaren Bay Region is an acute tertiary care hospital located in Bay City, MI. Our hospital joined the HMS collaborative in 2010 as part of the original cohort. Our PICC PI Team includes Dr. Cristian Boboc MD as our Hospitalist Physician Champion, Dr. Darrell Stuart MD as our Quality Administrative lead, Dr. Muwaffaq Salameh MD serving as the Internal Medicine and Nephrology representative. Sandy Garzell RN-Director of Quality Resource Management and Kayla Jensen RN- Infusion Nurse are the nursing representatives. Carol Wieszczecinski RN is the abstractor for the PICC line and Antimicrobial Use Initiatives.
The Infusion Team from Karmanos places our PICC lines and midlines. They have been instrumental in using our data to assist the PICC PI Team to do what is best for the patient in regards to placing the most appropriate infusion device, staff/physician education, policy development etc. Our goals are to use the right infusion device and to prevent complications.
Our Antibiotic Stewardship Committee consists of physician representation by Dr. Jason White MD-CMO and Dr. Darrell Stuart MD. Marc Nienhuis, Ben Bushong, Tim Mantey and Bridgette Cazzola are Pharmacy representatives. Ellen Talbot CNO, Sandy Garzell RN and Katie Roberts RN are our Nursing representatives. They are taking the new Joint Commission Antimicrobial standards and initiating a Pharmacy-based compliance plan. The HMS initiative will assist with collecting, analyzing and reporting data this recently formed committee can integrate into the compliance plan.
